HI MIEKE here's some upcoming nsi dialogue for you 💖

John grumbles, his hand tapping their thigh impatiently. The equivalent of a shrug, Arthur had learned over time. Not really. Some articles of clothing are nicer than others. I do enjoy certain colors. Gold, for instance, like the sun’s setting, or the streaks in your eyes. Blue, for another.

“Like this?” Arthur offers, lifting an arm.

Exactly. 

“Well, I’m glad one of us can appreciate it. Can you, um,” he falters, sounding vaguely sheepish, “can you describe it to me one more time?”

Sure. It’s a stone blue, on the darker side, but not close enough to navy for the two to be mistaken. The trousers hug your legs a bit closer than what you had on before, same with the jacket, but it isn’t tight or unflattering. Overall I’d say you cut a dashing figure, Arthur. 

“Dashing, huh?” he chuckles, thankful John couldn’t see the reflexive heat flushing along the back of his neck at the compliment. “I don’t know about that.”

About me

Hi! If you’re new here or (or not?) I go by Ray, my main is @writerray, and I’m over the age of 20 (so if you have nsfw works or don’t feel comfortable following teens or minors, you’re fine to follow me). My pronouns are she/her, I’m ace and bi, and I primarily write fantasy with romantic subplots—typically within the YA genre, though I’m thinking about switching some of my works over to NA or just adult. My writing tag is “# ray writes”, although I haven’t shared much in quite some time. I’m hoping that will change soon.

I have an Associates degree in art. If you’re interested in seeing some of my art—well, it isn’t that impressive despite the degree lol, but all of my oc art is posted here with the tag “# ray’s sketchbook”, I have an art blog ( @writerrayart ) that desperately needs to be updated, but I currently occasionally post fanart to it, and I also sometimes make fanart for visual novels/interactive fiction games over at @rayplaysif.

Current wips

All of my wips are in a planning stage right now, so the only actually current intro I have is the one for Chronicles of Light and Shadow. However, a short description of each one:

•Chronicles of Light and Shadow: a comic I’m planning about a magic school, in which one main character is trying to regain the memories she’s lost; another is trying to learn to live with a powerful entity and its power inside of her while grieving her sister; and another is investigating the school for corruption that she believes is present. And of course, like most comics you might read, those aren’t the only povs—it alternates between various characters scene by scene. Those three are just the main players in the plot. •Chosen One Story: A story about a Chosen One told from the perspective of his best friend. Wip tag: “# wip: co”

•Untitled wip: a story born because I had ocs that I wanted to squish into one world together. Currently has no plot, but currently we have a runaway princess, magic being outlawed and mages on the run, and a fae exiled from her homelands trying to blend in among humans while she works on creating technology to improve their lives. Wip tag: “# wip: nsi”

•G Project: In this world, some people are born with a special power—but the Crown sees them as dangerous, and so these people are hunted and killed. Still, the king can’t kill them all, and some of them escape, spending what remains of their lives running. Our main characters are a boy who wants revenge for his lover’s murder; a girl who can’t remember who she is—but knows that one of her new allies knows more about her than she’s letting on; and a noble girl who’s terrified of her fate now that it’s been discovered that she can read minds. •Castle of Roses-A thief is just about to be executed when the news is brought to the queen: her daughter, the princess, has been poisoned, and there is no cure. The thief makes a desperate attempt at saving her own life by claiming she knows the cure—a lie. Now she must gather the materials for a cure that may not exist with the help of—or perhaps, more accurately, under the watchful eye of—the crown prince and the royal mage’s apprentice. But even if they succeed, there’s still the matter of who, exactly, would poison the princess in the first place. Wip tag: “# wip: cor”

•Other unnamed wip: very little is planned about this one, but basically a girl accidentally ends up in the world of supernaturals following the death of her parents. Her sister soon follows while searching for her. And now the two are caught up in a world they never knew existed—and in a plot to merge their world and the supernaturals’ forever. John sits down next to him with an exaggerated huff, spinning his chair just enough that it knocks into Carson’s. “The coffee isn’t any better than it used to be,” he says, making a face down into his cup before he takes a sip.

“I think it may be worse,” Rodney complains from his seat across the table.

“Well, Rodney,” Carson says. “You shouldn’t be drinking caffeine at this time of day anyway.”

While Rodney’s spluttering into his coffee cup, John bites down a smile next to him. “It’s good to have you back, Doc.”

gag thing thoughts:

this wip is maybe a 500 word outline of shepwhump where the team rescues john but he’s kind of delirious and making too much noise (bc he’s hurt obviously) and so they have to cover his mouth during the rescue. it was. maybe. going to lead to some ar1 ot4 fun with a gag but may just. be what it is. some very descriptive shepwhump with rodney’s hand over john’s mouth the whole time

“What gives you that idea?” the newcomer asks casually, turning back around to face him again. The offered drink still sat untouched before him.

“Pianist’s hands,” Noel admits casually. He raises a brow, dipping his chin in the direction of Arthur’s palms resting flat along the counter. “Slender fingers. Capable looking, too.”

“Oh?” he asks, the faintest hint of a smile returning.

“Mhm. That, and you’ve been glancing at the thing for the last twenty minutes, on and off. I don’t even think you realize you’re doing it.”

“Ah. Apologies, I suppose.”

“For what? It’s interesting, watching where your eyes go. Puzzling ones that they are, too.”

That gaze shot through with subtle notes of amber like sunlight through whiskey meets his. There was something noticeably off about that look, all at once searching and starved, as though he were seeing straight through him in hopes of finding an answer for a question he hadn’t asked on the other side. Noel shifts, vaguely uncomfortable for the first time since entering the saloon; yet the weight of his interest keeps him firmly seated on the stool.

“You were watching me, then?” Arthur asks. 

Noel nods, either unwilling or unable to hide the truth. “I was. Just at the door, when I came in. A sheriff’s gotta know who all’s occupying his town, you see, but I think you knew you were being watched from the beginning, Arthur.”

“Hardly polite of you to stare, Mister Finley,” he says airly, moving over the latter half of his sentence entirely.

“Well, Mister Lester, I’m hardly a polite man.”
